- I wasn't talking about myself, I was talking about problems with other
- modem users around town. Any problems I have had connecting to other
- modems not of my brand name or speed or settings, I have always found a
- way to get around it.. due to THEIR modem not being "standard".

- When is it going to get through to you that Hard Drives and Modems do not
- care what computer they are running on? I have an RS-232 port on all
- computers I use, the Hard Drives are SCSI and I can take all equipment
- like that from one computer to another without any or with very little
- modification to initilization strings and/or device settings. SCSI is a
- standard, RS-232 is a standard, HAYES commands are a standard.. they
- don't care what they are connected to. You sound like one of those PC
- tech help guys which say only PCs and/or MACs (if them even) can use an
- ISP or one of these people which call RS-232 modems (external) IBM/PC modems
- because they do not know other computers have RS-232 ports.

- How long ago was that Byron? That was when I first had the BBS up and
- was still using a C64 specific 2400 baud modem which was relying on the
- C64s inbuilt RS-232 commands/instructions which were flaky themselves but
- I could fix the problem via software through adjusting the timings of the
- signals for input and output to the modem. BTW, that was over 5 - 6
- years ago. Any recent trouble from users connecting was due to their
- modem settings and/or modem in which I knew more about their modem
- (obviously) then they did as I had to tell them what settings they should
- have. You can put down the C64 all you want, I am still squeezing every
- last thing out of it before I retire it for BBS use anyways.. I am not
- going to go out and spend $1000 - $2000 on a system just to run a BBS off
- of, like some people around our area are doing and are not doing much
- more then I am. Heck, I now have a section on my BBS acting like the WWW
- which has hypertext capabilities and links and the users can download
- anims, pictures and sounds from the "pages" etc.. mind you not as
- advanced as the WEB but I have yet to see anything else running on any
- other C64, Amiga and/or IBM and MAC etc. software like it!
